The Most Underrated Trait for Growth & Transformation

Underrated Trait for Growth

February 14, 2025 //  by Lorin Krenn

This week, while coaching one of my private clients, he had an insight that completely shifted his perspective on a challenge. In an instant, the challenge dissolved—not because of me, but because of his openness to receive direct, laser-focused feedback.

He thanked me for transforming his life. My response?

“I didn’t transform your life, YOU did. It is your willingness to receive honest and intense feedback that allows you to progress at this level.”

Later, I reflected on this: One of the most underestimated and unspoken traits of those who go far in life is their ability to receive direct, sometimes fierce, feedback.

That moment of receiving feedback, feeling the resistance rise, the urge to reject it, but choosing to sit with it instead—this is often the key that unlocks your healing, awakening, expansion, and ability to manifest the life you desire.

And of course, as always, I asked myself: Am I embodying this trait at the highest level?

The reality I have created didn’t come from one single thought or action — it’s complex and nuanced. But a major part of my growth has been my ability to receive feedback, even when it stung, even when it bruised my ego.

I wanted to grow, expand, and awaken so deeply that I was willing to sit in the discomfort of my pride being hurt. But it wasn’t always this way. I had to experience suffering before I decided enough is enough.

The harsh truth is: many people say they’re willing to do whatever it takes to grow. But when the moment comes—when life presents them with the exact situation they need to face—they resist, reject, or deflect.

This isn’t a judgment. I’ve been there too. Wanting something deeply but then not fully showing up when it mattered most.

So I ask you:

How do you respond to difficult feedback?

Think about the last time someone gave you painful feedback—

  • In your relationship?
  • Your career or business?
  • A friendship?
  • From a coach or therapist?

What happened in that moment?

  • Did you push it away?
  • Did you deflect blame?
  • Or did you sit with it, reflect, and allow yourself to grow?

This alone reveals your devotion to your highest expansion.
