The Receiving Wound In Men

The Receiving Wound In Men

December 12, 2025 //  by Lorin Krenn

I work with very successful men. Men who have led teams, built empires and created wealth. Men who look like they have “made it.” And yet, when we begin the deep inner work, a pattern reveals itself practically every time. These men struggle to receive. Not because life is not giving to them, but because something inside them cannot let it in.

Success becomes a shield rather than a blessing. Now he must maintain it, guard it, defend it. Love approaches and his heart flinches. Abundance wants to enter, but the nervous system says no. Receiving is no longer easy, it resembles war inside the man, a fight between expansion and self-protection.

And here is the fascinating bit. I see the same wound in other men who aspire to become like those externally successful men. They believe that achieving more will fix the ache. They believe the next breakthrough will finally make them feel worthy of receiving love, intimacy, recognition, beauty, abundance. But the inability to receive does not heal with more achievement. It heals with depth.

Life can pour love, beauty, and abundance over you like the ocean. But if your inner relationship with receiving is wounded, restricted, fearful, or armoured, then that is how you will experience life. Limited. Tense. Never enough.

Even a man who is powerful in purpose, with a radiant woman by his side, can sabotage his own fulfilment. The final resistance of the shadow is often this: blocking what he wants most. Because receiving requires softening. It requires feeling. It requires surrender.

Men are extraordinary givers. We know how to take action, lead, protect, initiate. But when the battle is over, we often cannot slow down. The mind keeps running. The heart stays closed. The nervous system remains armoured. And in intimate life, this becomes the greatest fracture. A woman pours her love into him, and he cannot let it land. He is chasing the moment where he finally feels good enough to receive. Ironically, that moment would come the moment he stops chasing.

I am not speaking as a preacher. I learned this through uncomfortable truth. I have had evenings with my wife where she offered her heart so openly, smiling, radiant, tender, and yet I could not meet her. I was tense inside, felt like I was not enough, and I blocked her love without wanting to. It created pain. Distance. A missed moment of beauty.

Today, I treat receiving as practice. When she comes to me, lays her head on my chest, gives me the smile only I ever get, I breathe deeper. I drop into my heart. I make myself available. I let myself feel it. And at that moment, I feel whole. I feel loved. I feel worthy. The entire game changes. The need to chase dissolves. The man who receives is a man who no longer needs to prove.

This affects all aspects of life – purpose, leadership, money, fatherhood, intimacy. Everything. A man must know how to take the sword and ride into battle. And he must also know when to set the sword down and let life touch him. When a man can receive fully, he becomes unstoppable. Not driven by proving, but by presence. By truth. By inner authority. By love.
