Healing Parental Wounds

Healing Parental Wounds

July 24, 2024 //  by Lorin Krenn

As long as you are still looking for validation from your parents, long to be seen by them and need them to understand who you are at your core, you are limiting yourself from your highest power.

I am all for having great family relationships if possible, however this should never be at the expense of your truth, or at the expense of walking your path unapologetically.

Unless your parents are deeply spiritually awake, see you for who you truly are, and don’t play out any unconscious dynamics, you will continue to feel disappointed by them.

Let me give you an example, you are at a family gathering and suddenly notice yourself overexplaining yourself to your parents, and notice that you feel like a little child grasping for attention. Have you ever experienced this? This is a sure fire sign that you have unhealed mother and father wounds.

As long as your relationship with your parents triggers your inner child to become reactive, you are losing about 90% of your energy and power to create the life and relationship you want. Why do I say 90%? Because it is virtually impossible for you to embody your awakened feminine/masculine essence if you still feel like a child around your parents.

The only healthy relationship with our parents is one where we transcend the daughter/son dynamic. Now you are an adult, and you consciously choose to honor and have a great relationship with your parents (if possible) – that is very different to how things work when you are a child. The energetics could not be more different.

As long as you still prioritize your mother’s or father’s approval, or place them seeing you in a specific way above walking your path and serving the world with your authentic and unique gifts, you are operating from a place of limitation.

This is why you feel drained when you spend time with family. You feel drained either because you have to protect yourself from their shadow, or, because your inner child becomes activated and you disconnect from your authentic and sovereign power.

Perhaps the most important aspect of stepping into our full power and potential is to release any need for validation, to expect nothing from your parents. Instead, appreciate what they have done for you, and direct focus solely on your path.

This will free you. Your energy will start to shift. You are no longer a little boy or girl, you are a powerful force of nature walking your path. And what about your inner child? You take care of them now. You ensure they feel safe. Can you feel the power as you read this?
