Before I found my purpose as a man, I felt an insatiable restlessness to discover it. This hunger was so intense that, at times, it burned me.
I felt immense frustration, a sense of urgency, and a deep pressure – as if my life depended on it.
I would try one path, realize it wasn’t the right one, and then, with full force, throw myself into the next.
This quest consumed my daily thoughts, actions, focus, and attention. I relentlessly searched for how I could best serve the world.
Looking back, I wouldn’t call this a comfortable time in my life. On the contrary, I had to make difficult and bold choices, decisions that required tremendous courage, even though I was overwhelmed by fear and anxiety. But now, I understand it had to be this way.
While my approach was intense, I knew instinctively that the answers to most of my struggles – my insecurities, the lack of stability I felt in myself and my masculinity – were all tied to finding my purpose.
I realized I wasn’t alone in this journey. Viktor Frankl once said, “A man who lacks purpose distracts himself with pleasure.” Thomas Carlyle said, “The man without a purpose is like a ship without a rudder – lost, a nothing, no man.”
It may sound dramatic, but it’s true: A man without a purpose will continue to suffer, struggle, and feel lost.
Any healing approaches that do not put into consideration the high importance of a man finding his purpose are like painting a wall without a fresh canvas. Real progress requires focus on finding your purpose.
This is why men’s work is so important. It creates a clear framework that helps men step into their highest power.
And the first step is simple: Find your purpose. Discovering your purpose is your purpose. If you feel you can’t find it, then you haven’t yet made it the highest priority of your life.
Forget the fluff. Forget about simply improving your life. Forget about everything else. Focus, like a warrior in battle, on this one goal: finding your purpose as if your life depends on it. Because the truth is, your life does depend on it. Without purpose, you will continue to drift through life, weighed down by mediocrity, placed in boxes by society, and defined by external forces—instead of creating and forging your own path and legacy.
